Each composition and performance by pianist/keyboardist Kent Marcum offers a glimpse into the heart and mind of a ‘keyboard poet’. Marcum’s signature-mix of classical, new age, pop, r&b piano/keyboard licks blend seamlessly into a style that is melodic and heartfelt. Kent's recent musical achievements have been to place compositions with Harpo Productions, the Weather Channel and CBS. Marcum also has music in the soon to be released video game Netrikulator. Other placements include musical compositions with numerous libraries, including MTV. Besides composing and performing, Kent is also experienced and skilled in arranging, studio recording, engineering, producing, artist management and has extensive accompanying experience. Currently he is the music supervisor for a full length movie. A seasoned artist who began playing piano at age six, Marcum found his calling early in life. Eventually, he trained at the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Musicians Institute (Pro Tools Certification), North Texas State University (Bachelor of Music degree), Eastern Michigan University (Master of Arts degree) and Sienna Heights University (music education). He now resides in Studio City, California. Over the years, Marcum honed his style and has performed and composed a full repertoire of music in a wide variety of genres that has garnered him a strong following and a diverse catalog of music . The momentum has been constant with a series of CD releases, performances and music composition placements. Marcum has performed in an eclectic variety of venues, from the Pisana Palace in Rome, Italy, the Chattanooga Choo Choo in Tennessee, Hollywood, Dallas, the Mitch Albom show and all across his native Michigan, drawing near-capacity crowds. Like other indie artists and composers, he credits the Internet and digital technology for helping to fuel his mounting success. A technologically savvy musician, Marcum worked with multi-Grammy-winning engineer Eric Schilling at The Hit Factory/Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida when recording tracks for The Journey and Playtime and recently utilized his proficiency in Pro Tools to co-produce new material at Paramount Recording Studios with engineers Erik Reichers, Nels Jensen, and Jamie Seyberth. With compositions that often exude elegance, passion and excitement, Marcum considers himself a spiritual gardener of sorts – a caretaker of the heart who cultivates music aimed at nurturing the soul. Whatever the emotion, his music plays like a soundtrack of the heart. |
